Blackberry Takeover

Beginning of Jan I talked about the Blackberry Curve that I had just acquired, you can read that article here. Since then Blackberry has been marketing their Blackberry bundle extensively. There are several competitions and ads on the radio and they are clearly making a huge difference.

It is not difficult to spot maybe every second person with a Blackberry. They hit the nail on the head when they offered a R59 monthly Blackberry bundle allowing even the prepaid users to take advantage of it. And although the App store is nowhere near as extensive as the iStore there are still some pretty cool apps to be had.

I think Apple should be worried. I have now seen users actually drop their iPhone to rather take the Blackberry alternative. I still would find it very difficult to turn down an iPhone if offered to me but for the cost involved the Blackberrys make a lot of sense.

Until the price of iPhones drop and they figure out some similar service charge system I think the Blackberrys will flourish. And quite honestly, I think it's great. Shows that the other cell phone manufacturers haven't given up to the Apple completely and are thinking of new ways to take them on instead of just trying to create "iPhone knockoffs".

I think you hit the nail on the head here. I got a blackberry 2 years ago and ever since its just been a steady rise in blackberrys everywhere you look.
